Kirsten and Edna Quilts

Jane here.  My friend, Kirsten, has made another strip quilt.  This one she stitched-in-the -ditch instead of quilt-as-you-go.  She tells me it is for a friend who needs a quilt for her granddaughter.  Well this one is just right.  I took the photo of Kirsten and her quilt.

It has been raining here today, so we stayed in and tidied up, vacuumed, and worked on bindings.  Then we watched Finding Nemo and had popcorn.  We also got an e-mail from Edna, who has been doing some quilting.  She said she wants to join in the Medallion Quilt Challenge of 2021.  How exciting!  I can hardly wait to see what she comes up with. She sent us a photo of her most recent completed quilt.  It is another scrappy dandy.

Edna, also said, she is hoping to come and visit us this Fall and bring her medallion quilt with her.  She wants to show us in-person.  That is definitely something we all look forward to.

Keeping Our Distance

The girls and I seem to be getting a lot of quilting done, however, we have also been making masks.  It is a good thing that we all have such awesome fabric stashes, to draw on, at times like these.  We are making masks using batik fabrics, as they are a tighter weave of cotton; two layers in each mask.  We have used up all our elastic, but we can make masks with ties.  Kirsten has been doing some slow hand-quilting on her Civil War Nine Patch quilt.  She got three lines done this week!  She and Jane are having a look at it, as shown in the photo, above.  She and Jane are trying to keep their distance, but are wearing their masks just to be extra safe.  Be safe out there, and stay home and quilt, sew, read a book, do your nails, run around in the back yard, plant some seeds, replace light bulbs, refill the bird feeder, tie-dye some fabric, build something from wood scraps, take a nap in the yard, try new recipes, like the coffee cake recipe on the brown sugar bag (but you need sour cream for that .  .).  Keep checking back on our blog!

Red, White, and Blue Quilt for Phyllis

Special red, white, and blue quilt for friend, Phyllis. Has one block with that Abraham Lincoln fabric, to celebrate President's Day. The outer border is some fun fabric with measure tape people running with needles and wearing thimbles on their button-heads! Again, the blocks in the center are each 1 inch square.

New Years Eve Quilt

Kirsten and friends enjoying New Years Eve Quilt
Kirsten and friends really like her new lap quilt! She is quite the little quilter.  It is called the 'New Years Eve Quilt" because that is when it was done. Finished at 11:41 p.m. on December 31, 2012.

Happy Butterflies Doll Quilt - I finished my latest doll quilt yesterday evening.  That scalloped binding about drove me nuts. I am glad that is over.   Oh, yeah, it's the hard that makes great!  I like it very much.  It measures 21 1/2 X 21 1/4 inches.  The batting is a heavy piece of white flannel. The wings are pieced triangles, bodies are hand applique', antenae are embroideried.  The hardest part was sewing the binding onto the scalloped edge.
