Liberated Wedding Ring Quilt

Greetings!  Astrid here.  I finished some of my multitasking projects.  Mainly, I completed my liberated wedding ring quilt.  Those traditional wedding ring quilts look too difficult for me.  This one was, actually, quite simple.  I did not think so, at first, but once I got going it just took off and next thing I knew, I had all by blocks done!

Then I had to dig out some pale fabric for the sashing and borders.  Once I got it all quilted on my handi-dandy home sewing machine, I just had to fiddle around with picking the binding fabric.  I made the binding and got it completed last night.  I even sewed a label on the back.  Whenever you make a quilt, put a label on the back, so it shows that you did it and when (maybe even where or why).

Astrid's Kawandi Quilt

Astrid has been extremely busy these last couple of months.  Astrid really like's making quilts that represent different cultures.  She recently went to a retreat where she met another quilter who had an amazing quilt.  She said it was a Kawandi quilt.  Astrid had taken her big box of scraps, to the retreat, so this quilt was easy to make while she was at the retreat.  

Of course, Jane was over for a visit, and she put on the new outfit that Astrid made for her.  Wow! Those rose-colored overalls and striped shirt fit her perfectly.  Jane love's her new outfit.  Jane was really impressed with Astrid's Kawandi quilt, too.  Astrid said there are lots of websites and blogs about Kawandi quilts, if you are interested.  Apparently, Kawandi is an India quilt style that was brought to India by Africans, who call their style of quilting Siddi.   If you need to write a research paper, this is a great topic, and a great way to learn about another style of quilting!

Now, Jane has a dilemma.  She cannot decide which quilting style to teach in her upcoming January tutorial; Hachi or Kawandi.

Valentines Day Medallion Quilt

Astrid completed her medallion quilt.  She started with some scraps from some Buggy Barn horse quilt her friend 'C' was making.  She made her center from those greens and whites, then put a frame around it, in the style she saw in a quilt at the Black Butte Quilt Show (near Sister, OR) in 2018.  It was an amazing basket quilt by Diane Nait Kelly.  Astrid used pink as her main background fabric, instead of yellow and did just one border of square blocks all around the edge to frame up this fabulous medallion quilt.

Astrid quilted this one on her home sewing machine and she used pink thread to match the top and the back. The back is some left over paisley from Kirsten's stack n whack quilt.
